The tenet of psychiatry department /

Based on professional patient care knowledge, the department has generated a warm and comfortable treatment environment and expanded its diversified services to meet the needs of the community.

History Profile /

Beginning with available acute wards in September 1996, Yuanshan Veterans hospital has since become the 1st hospital of this kind in the Yilan area with a full time inpatient psychiatry department. In order to meet psychiatric medical treatment needs, the department has continued to add more acute and chronic wards. Currently, it has 60 acute beds and 237 chronic beds.
It assisted the Taiwan Fund for Children and Families in individual case guidance and project evaluation in April, 1997. Afterwards, it continued to work with the Tzih-Huai Social Welfare Foundation on Tzih-Huai-Yuan group guidance, the Eden Social Welfare Foundation on parenting and the Home of God’s Love with training of social workers. Currently, it has continued its cooperation and exchange with various social welfare organizations.
Since July, 1997, it has participated in psychological counseling for drug addiction at detention centers and judged whether drug withdrawal was required. It has continued to take part in treatment related to sexual abuse and domestic violence.
As of September, 1998, it was appointed by the high schools in the Yilan area as school psychological consultant in whose capacity the physicians of this department could assist the schools to help the students who have psychiatric problems, mental disturbance or behavior deviance and give mental and emotional health education as needed.
From 2004, it has aggressively promoted psychological disaster prevention, followed by establishing a warm
outpatient clinic to help victim families. In addition, it also sponsors a psychological disaster prevention
seminar every year, promoting depression prevention, holding campus promotions and giving melancholia
checkups.

It rolled out a community rehabilitation center in January, 2005 in an attempt to provide psychiatric patients with an integrated rehabilitation network.

Liu Guang Zhong

Education:Medical science bachelor, National Defense Medical Center
Work experience: The resident, chief resident, attending physician, chief of child/juvenile department, chief of public outpatient clinic, chief of medical treatment clinic at 818 Armed Forces Hospital (currently Beitou Armed Forces Hospital), the chief of the psychiatry department of Yuanshan Veterans Hospital and Suao Veterans Hospital,
Specializing in:Group psychological treatment, child and juvenile mental consultation, somatoform disorder, neurosis, various psychiatric diseases, relationship therapy and family consultation.
Awarded: Women and Children Model Protector medal awarded by the Taiwan Foundation for Children and Families in 2000, and an Excellent Doctor award by the Yilan County Medical Association in 2003.


Song Hong Sheng

Education: Master of Health Care Organization Administration, National Taiwan University College of Medicine, and medical science bachelor of National Defense Medical Center.
Work experience:A specialty physician of the Taiwanese Society of Psychiatry, passed the U.S. FMGEM physician examination, the attending physician at Taipei Veterans General Hospital, chief of the psychiatry department at Yuanshan Veterans Hospital, currently the lecturer at National Yilan University.


Lu Zhi Peng

Chu Jia Fang

Work experience:A specialty physician of the Taiwanese Society of Psychiatry, a specialty physician of the psychiatry department of Taichung Veterans General Hospital, a research physician of the Children Psychological Health Center of National Taiwan University College of Medicine

Services /

Physical therapy of orthopedics for degenerative arthritis, cervical vertebra syndrome, lower back pain, torticollis, tendonitis, treatment after artificial knee joint replacement surgery and amputation patient services
•Neurological physiotherapy for stroke, brain damage, spine and peripheral nerve injuries
•Pediatric physiotherapy for cerebral palsy and down syndrome patients.
•Cardiopulmonary physiotherapy for angina, myocardial infarction, coronary artery bypass surgery and replacement heart patients.

1.Full time inpatient services provided by the psychiatry department:
Wards have been designed according to high safety standards and comfort planning. A central air conditioning system works around the clock. The treatment activity zone linked to the wards has a large stage audio/visual room, several small art handicraft rooms, outdoor multiuse sports court and a recreation area where several casual chairs are placed.
◎Full time aggressive inpatient treatment:Physicians and medical care personnel talk with patients every day on the topics required in treatment and give medication as well as family treatment. Personal interaction groups and activities, and recreation therapy are also included in the treatment in the hope of easing patient symptoms in a shorter duration.。
◎Occupational rehabilitation treatment: Arrangement of group treatment activities (e.g. hula hooping, folk dancing, treasure hunting games, dodgeball games, listening to music, watching movies, composition, fine arts appreciation, cooking, handwork training, physical stamina training) according individual needs, self care training, shopping practice, car washing training, farming operation and tours.
◎Clinical mental healing:To provide physiological feedback treatment, group mental healing, psychology evaluation and individual mental healing. The services department focuses on using psychology principles, knowledge, technology and methods to probe patient mental status, to further design a treatment strategy to remove patient psychological barriers.
◎Social services:Holding group discussions once a quarter, providing support group mental healing, family treatment, marital consultation, evaluation of social skills of individual cases, consultation, helping patients apply for disability manuals and catastrophic illness cards and handle patient post discharge placement as well as social referral.

Special outpatient services – Panic disorder outpatient services, melancholia outpatient services, decompression outpatient services, child and juvenile outpatient services (to provide physiological feedback treatment)

4.Community Rehabilitation Center:
Established in January, 2005, its tenet is to provide rehabilitation treatment to psychopaths in the community who have not completely recovered, so they may smoothly adapt to family life and society.
Services included:Providing community psychopaths with rehabilitation treatment, provide social skills training and living management, develop hobbies, and offer family treatment and health education about psychiatric medical treatment.
