Based on professional patient care knowledge, the department has
generated a warm and comfortable treatment environment and expanded its
diversified services to meet the needs of the community.
History Profile /
Beginning with available acute wards in September 1996, Yuanshan Veterans hospital has since
become the 1st hospital of this kind in the Yilan area with a full time inpatient
psychiatry department. In order to meet psychiatric medical treatment
needs, the department has continued to add more acute and chronic
wards. Currently, it has 60 acute beds and 237 chronic beds.
It assisted the Taiwan Fund for Children and Families in individual
case guidance and project evaluation in April, 1997. Afterwards, it
continued to work with the Tzih-Huai Social Welfare Foundation on
Tzih-Huai-Yuan group guidance, the Eden Social Welfare Foundation on
parenting and the Home of God’s Love with training of social
workers. Currently, it has continued its cooperation and exchange with
various social welfare organizations.
Since July, 1997, it has participated in psychological counseling for
drug addiction at detention centers and judged whether drug withdrawal
was required. It has continued to take part in treatment related to
sexual abuse and domestic violence.
As of September, 1998, it was appointed by the high schools in the
Yilan area as school psychological consultant in whose capacity the physicians
of this department could assist the schools to help the students who have
psychiatric problems, mental disturbance or behavior deviance and
give mental and emotional health education as needed.
From 2004, it has aggressively promoted psychological disaster prevention, followed by establishing a warm
outpatient clinic to help victim families. In addition, it also sponsors a psychological disaster prevention
seminar every year, promoting depression prevention, holding campus promotions and giving melancholia
checkups.
It rolled out a community rehabilitation center in January, 2005 in an
